Abdominal lifting (abdominoplasty) is an esthetical surgery in which excess of skin and fat are removed and in which looseness of muscles are tightened.
Pregnancy, losing and gaining weight, not to have sport habit, due to the genetic structure cause loosening in abdominal muscles and prolapse in abdominal skin. If there is a concomitant excessive weight, there may be fat accumulation in the front trunk, at the waste edges, at sides and on pubis. During the abdominal lifting, an abdomen with a more beautiful appearance in terms of esthetics is obtained also by eliminating excess of fats by means of liposuction.
Abdominal lifting surgeries can be done through two methods;
In full abdominal lifting surgery, skin and subcutaneous tissues are lifted on the abdominal muscles by making incisions extending toward the sides along the cesarean section line. Meantime, the navel remains at the same location. Excessive parts are removed by stretching ski and subcutaneous tissue lifted till the rib line at sides and till chest bone referred as the sternum. In the same session, if there are separation or loosening in the abdominal muscles these are also stretched by tightening by the help of sutures.
In the partial abdominal lifting (mini abdominoplasty) surgery, navel line is not passed. Excess of skin and excess of fat remaining under the navel are taken.
Abdominal lifting surgery is done under general anesthesia. Screenings in terms of blood levels, liver function tests, renal function tests, clothing values and contagious diseases by making blood analyses of the patients before the surgery. The status of the lungs is investigated by acquiring pulmonary X-ray films and the heart rhythm and cardiac status are investigated by taking electrocardiography (ECG). Furthermore, if the patient has an additional disease, tests concerning this disease are made and consultation are established from the concerning department about whether he or she has any status that will hinder the surgery if necessary.
Abdominal lifting surgery lasts one and half hour to two and a half hours. If the procedure will not pass over the navel line and if muscle tightening procedure is not required mini abdominal lifting surgery can be planned. Mini abdominal lifting surgery lasts one hour.
Following the abdominal lifting surgery people usually stay in hospital for two days.
Following the abdominal lifting surgery, the first several days may uncomfortable. The pains decrease four to five days later and they almost completely heal after the tenth day.
People who experience abdominal lifting surgery may return to their social lives four to five days later. If they have not a job requiring physical power, they may return to their job seven days later. We suggest them to rest for one month if they have a job requiring physical power.
In the abdominal lifting surgeries a trace extending horizontally at the lower part of the abdomen persists. However, since this trace is within the bikini line it is not seen outside.
The complete disappearance of the traces is not possible. However, slight traces which cannot be noticed at first glance persist.
